China Sourcing Reports
Fitness Equipment
Fitness equipment suppliers in China are optimistic about export growth in the months ahead as the trend for a healthy lifestyle gains strength worldwide.
Companies are emphasizing multifunctionality, safety and ergonomics in upcoming models. More products will come with value-added electronic features such as speakers, TFT-LCD TVs and audio input for music players.
Luggage
China is the world’s largest supplier of luggage, accounting for nearly 80 percent of shipments in the line. The export industry in the country has been experiencing steady sales growth over the past few years. After posting 17.7 percent growth in 2006, China shipped out close to $6 billion worth of luggage in 2007, up 21.1 percent from a year ago.
Golf Cars & Trolleys
China has emerged as one of the world’s largest suppliers of golf cars and trolleys, despite having a history of less than a decade. Exports have grown at double-digit levels annually, increasing by more than 20 percent in 2007.
Large makers are the primary drivers of the rise in shipments since the industry is highly concentrated. These companies are expected to account for an even greater share of output and exports in coming months.
Camping & Outdoor Gear
China’s camping and outdoor gear industry is bracing itself for a difficult year as demand contracts amid the financial crisis that has hit the US and spread over to other markets.
Amid this business climate, many companies will be shifting resources to focus more on the midrange segment. Efforts will be focused on portable designs that can make camping and related outdoor activities more convenient and enjoyable.
